Letter from the Director
Kids on Mission is a 100% virtual program designed and implemented by Charleston Bilingual Academy. KOM lessons reflect the philosophy of its founding school, and include prayer, singing with motions, games, Bible memory verses, and introduction to vocabulary and sentence structures through story-based, interactive instruction and play. The time and day of your class will be confirmed the week prior to the start of the session, to give time to coordinate group classes.

About Charleston Bilingual Academy
In partnership with parents, CBA exists to inspire world changers through Christ-centered, intercultural, immersion-based education.
CBA seeks to kindle community change by uniting and leveraging diverse families through providing developmentally appropriate, project-based, language immersion education. In this setting, we develop children linguistically, cognitively, socio-emotionally, and physically by equipping children to navigate cultures and languages, while learning and experiencing the love of the Triune God. Along with the school, students and their families will engage various cultures, combating unintentional and intentional racism, classism, xenophobia, poverty and broken families.
CBA students learn to live in at least two languages, simultaneously making friends from many cultures, all the while being saturated with the great love and truth of the Triune God.
Registration & Payments
Steps to Register
On our website (KOMlearning.com) you will be able to sign up for your preferred day and time options for our available sessions. Group class times are confirmed the week prior to the session beginning.
Kids on Mission Costs
Pricing varies based on whether the class is one-on-one or small group.
One-on-one: $30 for each session.
Small group: Around $10 per session, depending on how many days a week are chosen. Prices for an 8 week session are:
- 2 classes a week (16 total classes): $175
- 3 classes a week (24 total classes): $240
- 5 classes a week (40 total classes): $400
You can pay via credit card directly on the website, which will incur a 2.5% processing fee.
There are no make-up days for online group classes due to student absences. There are no credits for student illnesses, voluntary absences, poor internet connection, or other technical issues. In case of teacher illness/emergency/technical issue, teachers will provide make-up dates.
If a parent needs to reschedule a one-on-one class, notice must be received at least 48 hours before the scheduled class time in order to receive credit for a make-up class.
Withdrawal & Refund Policy
When you register for a session, you have the opportunity to “try out” the first class risk-free. If for any reason you feel that the virtual learning platform is not a good fit for your child, you can simply email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss other options or to request a full refund. After your child has completed their second class, there will be no refunds for early withdrawals or dismissals.
Student, Parent, and Teacher Expectations in the Virtual Classroom
Students are expected to abide by each teacher’s individual classroom rules as well as the following:
- Students must be dressed.
- Students may not eat during class time.
- Students must remain in front of the screen and focused during the entire class, unless there is an emergency. Please take care of any personal needs beforehand, such as going to the bathroom and drinking water, so students can be 100% focused on the class once it begins.
- Students should wear headphones if possible and be seated in front of a wall to minimize distractions.
- Students are not allowed to use the chat function unless requested by the teacher.
- Students may be asked to annotate the screen to show understanding. Students should only use this function when asked by the teacher.
- Students may at times be given mouse control to drag items on the screen. Please ensure that your child can effectively control the mouse or trackpad. These kinds of activities work best from a computer as opposed to a tablet.
- Students might be asked to mute themselves and parents should be available to help if needed.
- Students should come to class with required materials for each lesson.
- Students should set up and join the meeting before the scheduled start time. Do not expect the teacher to let you in until it is time to start the class. Do not expect the teacher to immediately let you in when entering late.
- Students should speak clearly and not shout.
- Students should not interrupt the class or participate in off-task conversations.
- Virtual meetings and conversations follow the same conventions as physical ones:
- Do not interrupt
- Students are expected to participate in dialogue without dominating the conversation, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to engage.
Parents must be present in the room during the meeting. Parents are not required to be involved in the meeting but should assist with any technical or behavioral issues when requested.
Parent also agree to the following:
- Parents will ensure students attend class in an environment that is school appropriate, well-lit, offers privacy, and is free from distractions.
- Parents will not talk or create any other background noise during the class.
- Distractions in the “classroom” affect everyone else in attendance and include but are not limited to background noise, siblings/guests in the background, phone calls, student misbehavior etc.
- Sitting in front of a wall is recommended.
- Parents agree to assist students in obtaining technology and other materials necessary to complete the classwork (printouts, pencils, etc.).
- Technical requirements include reliable internet service and a computer with the capability to connect to Zoom (microphone, camera).
- We recommend being prepared at least 5 minutes before the meeting: open the Zoom app to check for any software updates, test the audio/camera, turn off any notifications or other sounds that will detract from the meeting.
- For confidentiality reasons, parents are prohibited from recording group classes.
Kids on Mission Teacher Responsibilities
- Showing love to all students and seeking to create and maintain bonds with children
- Class instruction
- Student engagement
- Teachers will engage students throughout the entire class through various activities, asking questions of each student and through the use of props, songs, appropriate background, and materials
- Maintaining order in the class: If a child is continually interrupting the class the teacher can mute the microphone, turn off the webcam, and even dismiss the child from the class. If the behavior continues as a pattern in multiple classes even after parents have been addressed, the child will be dismissed from the program and there will not be a refund for tuition payments.
Sample Class Flow
- Teachers and students greet each other.
- Teachers and students pray together.
- Teachers and students sing together.
- Teachers review the prior lesson and introduce the new lesson.
- Teachers allow students to practice speaking and asking questions as well as participate in a game.
- Teachers and students practice the unit Bible verse.
- Teachers pray and encourage students to serve and love others.
The Kids on Mission virtual class program launched in June of 2020.
